Workshop Brief:
Take your pick:
You don't need to be creative to do instructional design.
OR
If you aren't creative, you cannot be a good instructional designer.
It's odd, even ironical, that the above two statements in all their variations are often heard in the corridors of eLearning companies and training divisions of different organizations, and both these statements are spoken with equal vigor and belief. The unfortunate fallout of these reigning beliefs is that individuals begin to question their own skill-match with ID.
As a seasoned ID professional, I disagree with both statements because I know from experience that all of us possess a reasonable degree of creativity. Some of us have found environments that have inspired us to remain creative, while others ended up starving their creativity so that their performance didn't suffer - for who knows better than us how a creative original answer would result in a red mark on our answersheets, while repeating the exact words that the teacher wrote on the board fetched us marks and glory?
Content/training design and development unfortunately requires us to rejuvenate our creative selves once again. If you don't believe that you are creative, or if you find difficulty in connecting your creative energy with the process of instructional design, then this workshop is for you.
In my initial discussions with the prospective participants of the IDCD and IDST courses, I often hear the question, "What if I am not creative? Will I still do well in the IDCD course?" I've designed this three-hour workshop for a heart-to-heart discussion on this matter.
This workshop explains creativity, enables you to find your lode of creativity, and helps you discover whether there truly exists a relationship between good content and creativity, and there is one, then how you can use it to shine better and brighter than the others.
