Free Blogging for Personal and Professional Growth workshop

Workshop Brief

Until the 1990s, presenting one's work to possible clients and prospective employers in a non-obtrusive, inexpensive way, was an almost impossible dream for any individual. Then came the Internet, and things began to change. Now your work could cross geographical boundaries and be seen anywhere in the world, but accomplishing this was neither easy nor inexpensive. For starters, you needed to set up a website for which you had to know a bit of HTML and shell out quite a bit of money.

Then in the 2000s, blogging appeared on the scene and changed things for individuals who wanted to establish a web-presence. You no longer had to buy a domain name or go through the technical-pains of setting up your website. You could get on any of the popular blogging platforms such as Wordpress, Blogger, Typepad, and start your blog without spending a penny.

But as it happens with any enterprise that has low entry barriers, there was an underside to it. Since content-publishing had become free and easy, by 2010, we saw a content-explosion. All kinds of content, the good, the bad, and the ugly, filled the world wide web. The blogging scene followed suit, and everyone who could write (or couldn't) had a blog, as nobody wanted to miss out on the gold rush of free publicity.

The situation was further aggravated by the misuse of Meta-data, indiscriminate exchange of back-links, and blatant copying of content. These were just a few tactics that were being used by unscrupulous individuals and organizations to improve their listing on different search engines. Search engines responded by tightening their algorithms and developing artificially intelligent systems that were smarter and couldn't be fooled that easily.

Now, in 2021, the Internet is bursting at its seams. The ".com" domain names (especially the meaningful ones) are almost gone, and hundreds of new domain extensions are being offered. The blogging space appears saturated, and someone who starts a new blog today, often wonders what they must do to ensure that their blog gets discovered. More often than not, a blog that was created with a lot of hope and expectation, soon fades away into oblivion.

The main reason behind an initial lack-luster performance is quite simple.

A blog can gain and sustain its audience's attention only if it:
1. gains and sustains the attention of its readers by providing interesting, relevant, and readable content,
2. develops trust through content-integrity and continuity, and
3. allows itself to be discovered by prospective readers/visitors.

This workshop is designed to help you create such a blog. Following are the objectives of this workshop.
