Here’s a puzzle that I posted on LinkedIn just now. It’s probably the simplest of all logical reasoning questions… but if you are just starting on these kind of questions, you may want to check it out 🙂
Three houses stand in a row. Their colors are: Red, Green, and Blue.
Three neighbors live in these houses, and their names are: Reena, Geena, and Beena.
Facts, as Given:
Reena lives in the Green-colored house.
The Blue and the Red houses are not adjacent.
Geena doesn’t live in the Red house.
Questions:
- How are houses arranged – left to right?
- Which house does Geena live in?
- Who lives in the Red house?
Hint 1: Reduce the confusion (Change the colors and the names to letters.)
Hint 2: Start with the info you have (so start with the clear affirmatives and then use the negatives)
Hint 3: Once you are done, think out-of-the-box to see what you might’ve missed.
Note: Logical Thinking requires us to reflect upon a given set of facts and reason out a solution systematically.
If you are wondering, logical reasoning isn’t the “exact” same animal as Critical Thinking, which is a bigger and wilder beast – but burnishing your logical reasoning will pave your way toward critical thinking (the lack of which led our dear Professor of Communication Skills into the mess she found herself in.)
